Take Advantage Of US Airways Dividend Miles Off-Peak Award Chart For Free Flights

By Guillermo Rodriguez  (Award Travel Points)

I definitely like taking advantage of the off-peak deals that some Airlines offer because it means more free flights for less required miles.. US Airways has some very nice deals with its award chart if you happen to be traveling during the right period. If you still haven’t planned your winter trips, you may want to consider a getaway to Europe or South America. Either of these will cost only 35,000 miles round-trip in coach.  With the The US Airways Premier World MasterCard we can earn this miles after just the first purchase with the card. You could be flying for Free very fast with this card, which is why I highly recommend it!

US Airways even offers off-peak awards to South America in its First Class featuring Envoy Suites. While I haven’t flown these yet, I’ll have a chance to try them out when I go to Rio de Janeiro in February! Though these normally will cost 100,000 miles round-trip, the off-peak award chart offers the award for 60,000 miles.

How US Airways Off-Peak Award Destinations Work

US Airways does not allow any one-way award tickets and all tickets must be booked as round-trip. In order to take advantage of US Airways off-peak award pricing, you must travel on US Airways operated flights. This is very different from the American Airlines off-peak award chart that also allows you to travel on partner flights and take advantage of off-peak pricing.

You can redeem your US Airways miles on Star Alliance partners (it is best to search on the United Airlines website for award availability and then call US Airways customer service to price and book the flights). Unfortunately, none of these partner flights can be used with off-peak pricing. The good news, however, is that US Airways will show its own award availability on its website. You can book your off-peak awards right online.

But what happens when your travel falls into the off-peak period, but not completely?

Say you want to fly to Europe in mid-February, but return a few weeks later when the off-peak period ends in March. US Airways will actually price the legs on this award separately. That is, if you can find low-level award availability, you will pay:

  • 17,500 US Airways Dividend miles to fly to Europe.
  • 30,000 US Airways Dividend Miles to return.

Thus, it will be a total of 47,500 miles.

Booking The Off-Peak Award

As previously mentioned, you can book your US Airways award flights online. To search for space, just visit the US Airways website and navigate to Dividend Miles -> Book Award Travel.

Then simply type in your dates. I’ll be checking out flights from New York to Paris in February. You will then see the flight availability at different levels and can select your dates and book.
