For the last couple months people have been asking us how we managed to stay 6 nights for free in Bora Bora. Most people don’t believe us because they think it’s impossible to stay for free at one of the most expensive destinations in the world. Well I can assure you that its definitely possible and we just did it about 4 months ago. Here’s the proof:
We’ll that’s definitely us in Bora Bora at one of the best hotels, rated 3rd best hotel in Bora Bora on Tripadvisor.com, but how did we do it?
Many bloggers out there will give you a confusing explanation with a bunch of credit card links which makes it seem they just want you to apply for all the credit cards they’re promoting. We want everyone to know that we don’t get any profit for anything we’re doing in this blog. We simply love traveling and want to share our experiences and ideas with everyone interested in traveling for free like us. We love travel and we love talking about travel with everyone.
So how did we manage to stay 6 nights for free in Bora Bora?
It was very easy and am surprised people don’t do this more often. We simply applied for 1 credit card each about 18 months before the trip and we got our 6 nights for Free in Bora Bora. Which credit card?
We applied for the CHASE IHG VISA CARD which sometimes offers 80k bonus points after spending $1000 in the first 3 months of getting the card. The card also offers 1 free night at any hotel in the world every year on your anniversary date of getting the card. You get all this for a small annual fee of $49 per year which is a no brainer considering that 1 night at this hotel in Bora Bora cost about $1000 or more. For both of us applying for the CHASE IHG VISA CARD we got what we needed for 6 free nights in Bora Bora.
The CHASE IHG VISA offers 80k bonus points at different times during the year but not always. I recommend applying for this card only when they have this offer of 80k points for new card members. It takes 50k points for 1 free night at the Intercontinental hotels in Bora Bora. The credit card already gives you 80k points so all we had to do was buy 20k additional points which cost $140 to reach a total of 100,000 points per account. With 100k points you have enough for 2 free nights in Bora Bora, so between me and my wife we already had 4 nights. Then we used the annual free night the credit card automatically gives you every year for 2 more free nights, all this for a total of 6 nights in Bora Bora. We paid $140 each to buy the remaining 20k points needed for the free nights for a total of $280. This is a no brainer considering the total cost for 6 nights at these hotels in Bora Bora was over $6000 dollars.
So the total cost out of pocket for the 6 nights in Bora Bora was just $280. What do you guys think?! Isn’t this a steal, much better than paying over $6,000 for the week right! Even better was that we didn’t just stay inside a regular room, we got the over-water villas and all this for just applying each for the CHASE IHG VISA.
There’s 2 Intercontinental hotels in Bora Bora for which you can redeem your points and get the free nights. Most of this pictures were taken at the Intercontinental Thalasso and Spa and the other hotel is The Intercontinental Le Moana. We stayed 2 nights at the Moana and the other 4 nights at the Thalasso. Both hotels were great and we have lots of pictures and reviews of both hotels coming soon to this blog.
