How to fly almost for FREE to BORA BORA with points and miles.
Just a couple months ago we spend a full week in Bora Bora and I can’t say enough good things about this magical place. Bora Bora is amazingly beautiful and the closest thing to paradise we have ever seen. Unfortunately this place is not very cheap in fact is one of the most expensive travel destinations in the world. After we went to Bora Bora we have many friends and family asking us how they can also get there but without breaking the bank.
In this post I will try to explain different options to get free flights to Bora Bora and which option I think is the easiest. In order to get there, you need to fly through Tahiti airport (PPT), which is French Polynesia’s only international airport on the island. Then you would need to buy a short flight from Tahiti to Bora Bora for $300-$400 round trip. Los Angeles and Honolulu are the only North American cities with nonstop flights to Tahiti.
My favorite options to get for free to Tahiti (Bora Bora) with miles are:
- Los Angeles – Tahiti on Air Tahiti Nui (American Airlines partner): This is my favorite option for getting to Tahiti for free with miles. This is the option I chose when we traveled to Bora Bora earlier this year. For only 75k miles you get a free roundtrip ticket from the United States to Tahiti. That’s a lot better than paying $1500-$2000 per person just to get there. American Airlines points are extremely easy to earn with Citibank AAdvantage Credit Cards. Most of the time there’s incredible offers that give you 50k to 75k miles for just applying for these credit cards after spending $3000 in the first 4 months. If you and your significant other each apply for these cards you can easily earn 2 free rountrip flights to Tahiti.
- Los angeles – Tahiti on Air France: These flights operate three times per week and you have a couple options for redeeming miles on Air France. For example you can use 80k Alaska Miles for a roundtrip to Tahiti on Air France. You can also use 100k Delta Skymiles for a roundtrip with Air France. These are other options to get free flights to Bora Bora.
- Honolulu Hawaii – Tahiti on Hawaiian Airlines: This is a great option for those wanting to vacation a couple days in Hawaii and then continue the trip to Tahiti and Bora Bora. It will cost 27,500 miles (each way) to get to Tahiti from Hawaii and it’s only a 6 hour flight that leaves every Saturday afternoon from Honolulu. Hawaiian Airlines miles are easy to get with Barclaybank Hawaiian Airlines Visa.
Remember that getting to Bora Bora from Tahiti will cost about $300-$400 round-trip on Air Tahiti, and you won’t have an option to use points or miles for this flight. (This is because Air Tahiti and Air Tahiti Nui are two separate airlines, and Air Tahiti does not have partner airlines that allow you to use points/miles).
Once you fly to Bora Bora it’s also possible to get your hotel nights for Free with points, as I previously explained in this post from last week: How we stayed 6 nights for FREE in Bora Bora.
